The friend doesn't come to visit her very often at the senior center anymore. Every time she comes, her friend remembers her less and less. They have been friends for 50 years! The stories and memories they must have together! The friend has so many memories with her and the resident that lives here only remembers who the friend is...no memories from the past.
Tears streamed down the friends face as she left. She looked at me and said "this is a little harder each time I come as she doesn't remember me very much anymore "
I know that this doesn't have anything to do with the typical health that I blog about, but I was thinking about how our health, whether it is mental or physical, affects those around us that love us.
I am saying it all the time, telling people to exercise for themselves, get healthy for themselves, and do it for the amazing self pride it gives.
But what if we were to put a spin on this instead, and say that maybe we could get healthy for those around us. You never know how you affect people and you honestly never really know the extent of much people love you.
Becoming healthy, or staying healthy for that matter, can be something that maybe you could do for those around you as well. If you are in a situation where you have a spouse or significant other, children, relatives, friends, acquaintances at work that rely on you, etc. etc., you have a reason to be healthy. It doesn't have to be just for you. Becoming healthy and feeling the best that you've ever felt can be a gift for those around you as well that love you.
Your spouse will want to grow old with you (hopefully! hahaha!). Your children will want you to see their children and grandchildren.
The tears in the eyes of the visitor this morning at work here really struck home with me.
I am to be healthy for myself, but I'm also healthy for my family, my very best friends, and those who love me.
I want to do anything and everything in my power so that I can be healthy and feel good and live life to the fullest as long as I possibly can.
Obviously there are some diseases that are out of our control, but I pledge to do everything in my power to be healthy and happy so that I can give the most to my family and the people around me that love me.
Maybe a decision that you could make too?
Stop and think about the people around you today. ❤
